ULAP JOINS GLOBAL ORG FOR CITIES, LOCAL GOVERNMENTS
The Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines is now a member of the United Cities and Local
Governments, a global network of cities and local, regional, and metropolitan governments and their
associations.
ULAP National President and Quirino Governor Dax Cua joined the UCLG World Summit of Local and
Regional Leaders and World Congress in Daejeon, South Korea, where ULAP’s membership application
was discussed during a meeting of the Executive Bureau.
"As ULAP National President, it is with great pride and pleasure for me to say that ULAP is now a new
member of the UCLG. We are truly grateful for this vote of confidence in ULAP and rest assured that we
will faithfully abide by UCLG’s constitutions and rules."
"ULAP is wholly committed on UCLG principles and is in full agreement that critical action at the local
level is the heart of the solution in addressing global issues. As new members, we will be proactive in
pushing for our shared values and common global agenda,” Cua said in his acceptance speech.
ULAP’s formal membership commences on January 1, 2023.
Even so, the umbrella organization of the Philippines’ leagues of local government units and locally-
elected leaders will "capitalize on the opportunity to establish new ties” during the summit, Cua said.
“Hindi natin sasayangin ang pagkakataon. We hope to be able to find partners for growth and learning
during the ongoing summit para mas lalong magampanan ng mga LGU natin ang kanilang tungkulin sa
ating mga pamayanan at kababayan,” said the governor.
Cua added that such opportunities were the primary reason that pushed ULAP to join the UCLG.
He lauded the UCLG for its work in the areas of advocacy, capacity building, policy and research, project
development and management, and decentralized cooperations and said the Philippines could learn
much from the best practices of UCLG’s members.
