ULAP URGES SILG ABALOS RUN FOR SENATE

The Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP), led by its president, Quirino Gov. Dax Cua, has passed a resolution during its 105th National Executive Board meeting urging Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos, Jr. to run for the Senate in the 2025 Midterm Elections.

ULAP lauded Secretary Abalos for his exemplary performance as secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government and his distinguished record in public service.

“The Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines strongly urges Secretary Benjamin Abalos, Jr. to consider running for the Senate in the upcoming national elections, believing that Secretary Abalos will be the most effective voice of local governments in the Senate and that his leadership and experience will greatly contribute to national legislative efforts,” the resolution read.

The organization highlighted Abalos' significant contributions to public safety, peace and order, combating drugs through the BIDA campaign, and promoting local autonomy.

Notably, ULAP cited Secretary Abalos's leadership during emergencies such as Typhoon Carina and his various accomplishments across multiple public service roles underscore his dedication and capability.

Governor Cua said that the resolution, which was unanimously endorsed by the ULAP National Executive Board, reflects the organization’s confidence in Abalos’s ability to enhance legislative efforts and advocate for the interests of local governments at the national level.

“We are confident in Secretary Abalos’s proven track record and his potential to advocate for LGUs on a larger stage. His potential Senate candidacy holds promise for advancing effective governance and fostering national development," Cua also said.
